Cecil Don “Donnie” Martin
Lifelong Fort Cobb resident, Cecil Don “Donnie” Martin passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 6, 2024, at the age of 81.
Donnie was born April 19, 1943, in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma to Cecil and Dorothy Martin, He was one of eight children. He attended Fort Cobb Public Schools and graduated in 1961. After graduation he went to work for Plaster’s Station for a short time and then PSO as a line truck driver for 5 years. He met the love of his life Janice McCool, at the Carnegie Fair and they married April 13, 1963. They made their home in Fort Cobb. During this time, they welcomed their first child, Janice Renee. In 1967, Donnie gave his life to Christ. He had been a member of the Fort Cobb Baptist Church for many years. He had always wanted to own his own business and finally made his dream come true August 28, 1968 when he bought the gas station in town, later named Martin Oil Company. To sweeten this day, he welcomed his second daughter, Tina Louise. He owned Martin Oil company for thirty-two years and decided to retire. Shortly after his retirement he decided this was not for him and he bought and owned the hardware store, Martin’s Supply for ten years.
Donnie found a joy in taking care of his cattle. In his early years he loved to take Janice pheasant hunting. He was an avid hunter of pheasant, quail and deer. Donnie was a jokester at heart. He loved making his friends and family laugh. He found a friend in everyone and was always uplifting those around him. Donnie’s greatest treasure was his family. He was the greatest husband, father, and grandfather.
In the last days of his life Donnie enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was constantly sharing his love of the Lord with them. Everyone that stepped through his door he made time to pray with them and made sure that they knew the Lord.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Janice Martin of the home, daughters, Renee Wilson and husband Rocky of Fort Cobb and Tina Campbell and husband Charles of Oklahoma City, brothers, Marion Martin and wife Donna of Mustang, Jerry Martin and wife Debbie of Elk City, and brothers-in-law, Glenn Fowler of Duncan, sisters, Sue Whaley of Rush Springs and Jane Pearl of Mountain View, his grandchildren, Todd Wilson and wife Kelly of Weatherford, Ashley Rhoades and husband Levi of Fort Cobb, Dillon Wilson and wife Sayge of Weatherford, Brooke Stillion of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Chelsea Campbell and Michelle Lenoard of California, great-grandchildren, Piper and Remmi Wilson, Jentri, Blakely, and Landri Rhoades, Asta Wilson, and Collins Fleming, along with numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Donnie is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Dorothy Martin, sisters, Shirley White, Bernice Brinkley, and Louise Fowler, and brothers-in-law, Vernon Whaley, David Pearl, Kenton White, and Clarence Brinkley.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Donnie is set to begin at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Fort Cobb Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest at the Fort Cobb Cemetery Following the service.
